Zen Pinball creator Zen Studios, in collaboration with Valve, has announced the release of the \”Aperture Science Heuristic Portal Pinball Device\” on mobile devices, or Portal Pinball for short. The standalone pinball game will see players guiding Chell and Wheatley through test chambers as they battle against GLaDOS and work to escape the facility and reach the surface.

In Portal Pinball, users have access to a single player mode, as well as local multiplayer, in which up to four players take turns on the same device to earn the highest score possible with three balls each. During each game, players tap on the left and right sides of the screen to activate the flippers, with extra flippers located near the center and top of the board.

While the game’s basic goal is to keep the ball in play for as long as possible, Portal Pinball offers plenty of quests and goals to complete. To start, players can activate one of six test chamber activities by sending the ball into the elevator at the top of the table. To complete these test chambers, players are asked to shoot different flashing areas of the table, causing Chell to work her way to the exit.

In addition to these test chambers, the board contains pivot cubes, which change gameplay by redirecting lasers around the screen, sometimes adding orange propulsion gel or blue repulsion gel to the table, which affect the ball or Chell’s movement.

Throughout the game, players can activate skill shots, unlock free extra balls by completing challenging tasks (like hitting a cake target 30 times), complete a turret factory mini-game in the center of the table, access Ratman’s secondary playing field located under the main table, unlock multiball bonuses with the help of ATLAS and P-Body and more, with the final goal of defeating GLaDOS once and for all. If players can repeatedly complete it, this turret factory mini-game allows users to replace some of GLaDOS’s defensive turrets with defective units, making the final battle easier.

Players can compare their high scores with friends via Facebook connectivity, and will unlock achievements as they complete particularly challenging goals.

Steven Hopper, director of communications at Zen Studios, told us:

We’ve been huge fans of the Portal series since day one, so working with Valve to create this table has been amazing. Having the opportunity to adapt Portal’s form of brain-bending puzzles to our own brand of exciting pinball gameplay is something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, and seeing it come to fruition feels great.

Portal Pinball is now available to download for $1.99 on the iTunes App Store and Google Play. The table has also been released on the Zen Pinball 2 and Pinball FX2 platforms on PC, Mac and consoles for $2.99.
